Kathmandu: Members of the Electoral Constituencies Delineation Commission has started off the discussion with the experts and invited the opinions from the common folks through emails or telephone or fax, and posted the results on its website for everybody to see, stated one of the members of the commission while speaking to the anchor of the Radio Nepal morning program “antar-sambad” today.
He also said that the members have invited the political leaders to make clear certain provisions made in the Constitution for the delineation in addition to the clear provisions the population and geography the two major criteria, and asked the political leaders to provide their clarification and opinions in writing.
Some experts believe that the delineation of the electoral constituencies needs to be following the population in Terai where the population is concentrated at certain areas whereas it needs to be based on the geography in the Himalayan region and high hills where the population is widely scattered.
Members of the commission met with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba yesterday. At the meeting Prime minister Deuba urged the members of the commission to complete the task of the commission in time so that the provincial and federal elections could be held as scheduled, and assured the members of the commission providing any assistance they would need.
