Credibility Of National Census Of 2011

Issue 27, July 03, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 27, 2011: the Central Bureau of Statistics is completing the national census of 2011 today. However, some experts have raised the question of the credibility of this census.

First, locals in Rukum have complained that enumerators have not visited their village but they have filled out the census forms staying at home, and in another case, locals have complained that enumerators have hired somebody for them to collect the data in the villages according to the news published in ‘Gorkhapatra’ of different dates.

Chairman of Madheshi Teachers’ Forum Siraha has lodged a complaint at the Siraha District Administration stating the District Education Officer of the Siraha district has appointed some fake teachers to the positions of enumerators, ‘Gorakhapatra’ of today writes.

The KTM Metro reporter has given the information on the family status to an enumerator and has come to know that the enumerator has been ill educated. The census does not include the Nepalis gone abroad after getting the lottery visa called DV to the USA, and children born to Nepalis staying abroad; in the case of religion, the enumerator ticks on only one box of the various religions. However, Nepalis follow two basic religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism simultaneously because both Hindus and Buddhists worship the same deities in different names. So, the census form should have one box with Hindu/Buddhist.
