Collection of Opinions or Campaigning for…

Issue 10, March 08, 2009

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

March 2, 2009: members of the Constituent Assembly (CA) belonging to various political parties have began their tour to different areas for collecting opinions of people about crafting a new constitution of Nepal.

However, before sending their CA members to different areas, various political parties have briefed their respective members of the CA to strictly follow their election manifesto and their proposed new constitution when collecting the opinions of the people about a new constitution to be crafted.

So, the visiting CA members would be discussing with the local people on their election manifestoes and their proposed new constitutions rather than collecting the opinions of the people about a new constitution. In addition, they might influence on the opinions of the people to suit their needs.

The CA members collecting the people’s opinions about a new constitution would be campaigning about their political manifestoes and their proposed new constitutions at the cost of the taxpayers’ money, as the government has paid them for their traveling and daily allowances.

On March 1, 2009, the group of the members of the opposition political parties such as Nepali Congress, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and People’s Front fought against the Maoists in Rukum for holding a mass meeting to collect the opinions of the people about a new constitution according to the morning news of the Radio Nepal broadcasted on March 2, 2009.
