By KTM Metro Reporter
October 19, 2013: following the religious tradition, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav as the head of state visited the temple of Navadurga yesterday, and the president made offerings to the Navadurga deities, and then he received the ‘prasad’ means blessed flowers and fruits from the priest, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.
The members of the Navadurga troupe took the opportunity of the president’s visit to put forward their grievances. They said that their annual expenditures on running the Navadurga troupe was one million rupees but they have no other sources to meet the expenditures except for the offerings made by the devotees.
The Bhaktapur Municipality needs to allocate an annual budget not only to the Navadurga troupe but also to other religious and cultural events, and to the repair and maintenance of the cultural heritage that have been the main attractions of the tourists.
The Bhaktapur municipality collects millions of rupees as the entrance fees from the tourists. Certain portions of this money should go to the religious and cultural functions to keep them going otherwise the demise of such cultural events would drastically reduce the tourists visiting Bhaktapur, and the main source of the revenue for the municipality would be dried up.
