Regional Offices Of CIAA Set Up
By KTM Metro Reporter
September 19, 2013: spokesman for the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) also a joint attorney Shreedhar Sapkota has said that the CIAA has opened its regional offices in the five regions of the country, at Dhankuta of the eastern region, at Hetauda of the central region, at Pokhara of the western region, at the Surkhet of the Midwestern region, and at Dipayal of the far western region, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of yesterday.
It will ease the people complaining about the abuse of authority otherwise people have to travel to Kathmandu to make complaints. The CIAA has delegated its authority to the chief district officers (CDOs) of 75 district administrations to listen to the complaints but it has not been effective for many reasons, as CDOs are mainly for maintaining the law and order in districts. Probably, they don’t have much time to listen to the public complaints about the abuse of authority and corruption at the district level offices of the State.
People have been demanding the setting up of the CIAA regional offices but all the previous government have failed in doing so. The current government has allocated the budget for setting up the regional offices of the CIAA in the fiscal 2013. The spokesman for the CIAA has said that the opening of the regional offices will help in curbing abuse of authority and corruption in the State district administration, and enforce the good governance in the country.
