Birth Anniversary Of Yugkavi Siddhicharan Shrestha

May 24, 2013: Siddhicharan Memorial Foundation held an event at Ombahal in Kathmandu on May 22, 2013 to mark the 102nd birth anniversary of Yugkavi Siddhicharan Shrestha. Members of the literary community gather at the event, and garlanded the statue of the poet.

 

Speaking at the event, Dr. Anandadev Bhatta said that poet Shrestha had made remarkable contribution to the transformation of the society through his writings in Nepali and Nevah languages.

 

Senior litterateur Modnath Prashrit said that poet Shrestha rich in patriotic and progressive conscience had published his creations on the life of the working class people; he would like to be remembered and respected as a poet of the level of universal conscience, according to the RSS news posted on ‘gorkhapatralione.com.’

 

Yugkavi Siddhicharan Shrestha was a revolutionary poet, and had written “no peace without revolution” during the despotic Rana regime when speaking of such things would be a way to the gallows. He went to jail for his political writings.

 

He was born in Okhaldhnga. He spent his childhood there. He had written an emotional poem titled “My Beloved Okhaldhunga” describing the unique natural scene of Okhaldhunga.
