August 13, 2011: Some 50 Nepalese citizens including senior journalist Bhairab Risal and former secretary Dr. Dwarika Nath Dhungel have submitted a petition to Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal and the president of the International Military Antiques, IMA, demanding to bring back the antique weapons sold about 11 years ago, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

The then government and the top military officials of the Nepal Army had sold large quantities of antique weapons: the priceless heritage of Nepal, the petitioners have said in their petition and requested the Prime Minister for setting up a commission on inquiry of selling the national heritage, and bringing the perpetrators of the unpardonable crime to justice.

‘The Rising Nepal’ of today has quoted the petitioners, "We further would like to request the government to immediately send a message to the buyer not to sell the items and obtain details of the total costs that the country would have to bear to get back the sold items."

According to the recent news of the Kantipur Television, the Nepal Army had sold 450 tons of weapons without the public knowledge.

Defense Minister Bishnu Poudel has committed to hold an investigation into the sale of antique weapons by the Nepal Army and bring the perpetrators of crime to justice.
