Rally For Creating Awareness Of VAW

January 5, 2014: a peace rally and debate were held at Bouddha in Kathmandu to create the public awareness of the violence against women (VAW), according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

 

A dozen of organizations working in the sector of women's rights, and Nepali police held a rally at the Buaddha Monastery. They also held a procession around Boudha The participants at the procession carried the banners with the slogans, 'End VAW', 'Unit People', 'Disclose Suppression', 'Sisters, Be Aware at Public Places'.

 

Nearly a thousand local people, students and senior police officers participate at the rally and in the procession. Speaking at the debate, chief guest Superintendent of Police Pradip Kumar Shrestha said that the police administration was committed to controlling the activities against VAW. He urged all to extend support to the police to curb VAW.

 

Speaking at the debate, the women participants complained that the National Women's Commission could not give justice to the innocent.
