Reactions To Gyanendra’s Public Statement

March 26, 2010: saying any Nepalis has the rights to expression of his/her opinion publicly on any matters, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has strongly reacted to the Gyanendra’s statement of ‘the monarchy has not died yet and might come back again’ stated at the time of interview given to the Nepalese private TV in Janakpur on March 24, 2010. The President has said in his statement released on March 25, 2010 that the sovereign Nepalis have ended the monarchy following the democratic norms and values; so, the dead monarchy will not come to life under any circumstances; if it attempts to come back the sovereign Nepalis will kill it again; it is time to strengthen the federal democratic republic of Nepal.
Reacting to the Gyanendra’s statement, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has said that it is only a daydream of Mr. Shah to anticipate the comeback of the monarchy again.
President of Terai Madhesh Democratic Party (TMDP) Mahant Thakur has said that the former king’s statement of the possibility of the monarchy coming back is very disgusting and is illusion only; however, it goes against the people’s aspirations for the federal democratic republic, and it is necessary to stop him from making such statements.
One of the Deputy Chairmen of Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist) Narayan Kaji Shrestha ‘Prakash’ has said that the government should immediately stop providing Mr. Shah with any state benefits from now on and sack him from the Nagarjun palace; Mr. Shah will face the people’s action if he goes on saying such things.
Political analysts say that any idiot can say that the monarchy has not been dead yet and it might come back again but the reality is the monarchy has been the history, as any past monarchies; so, Mr. Shah will be well off to live quietly than trying to revive the corpse. Political analysts believe that Mr. Shah has been emboldened by the current political deadlock and the squabbling of the political leaders for power.
