Third Round Of Voting for Prime Ministerial Candidates

Issue 32, August 08, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 02, 2010: in the third round of election, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has received 259 votes: short of 41 votes for a simple majority to get elected to a Prime Minister. His rival Ram Chandra Poudel of NC has received 124 votes. Legislators belonging to the CPN-UML, some Madheshi political parties and other small parties have opted for not voting any one of the candidates. CPN-UML legislators have been for a two-third majority votes but at the same time have remained not voting any one of the candidates. Political analysts say that the CPN-UML legislators need to cooperate with other legislators to garner a two-third majority but they have remained indifferent to it disabling the legislature to elect a new Prime Minister.
