Small Parties Call For Consensus Politics
By KTM Metro Reporter
July 17, 2010: majority of small political parties representing at the Constituent Assembly calling for the consensus politics have done right and could prove to be the most effective instrument in building a consensus on completing the peace process and constitution writing. They can force the three major political parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML to build consensus on not only forming a new government but also on other political issues. None of these major parties can form a new government without the support of the small parties put together if they don’t cooperate each other. So, the small parties could be instrumental in institutionalizing the achievements made by the People’s Movement of 2006.
Currently, these three major parties have disabled the Constituent Assembly and have stalled the peace process and writing a new constitution. They have amply demonstrated that they have no faith in the Nepalese people’s aspirations for the peace and prosperity. They are ready to do anything possible for gaining the power. So, the small political parties together need to force the three major parties for working on the consensus politics.
