Madhav Administration Imports Weapons

February 20, 2010: the Madhav administration has wounded five legislators belonging to the UCPN-Maoist and some human rights activists for obstructing the three truckloads of weapons brought into Kathmandu going against the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) the government has reached with the Maoists according to the YCL affiliated to the UCPN-Maoist. YCL Chief Ganesh Man Pun has told the reporters that they have been following the trucks loaded with weapons from the Sunauli entry point, the DSP has agreed to open the trucks to the public at the Khani Khola for disclosing the weapons to the public but the Police Inspector did not stop there rather moved the trucks with high speed defying the command of the DSP.

The legislators and human rights activists again tried to stop those trucks at Nagdunga but the police used forces and injured the legislators and brought the trucks into Kathmandu. Speaking to the reporters from the hospital beds, one of the injured Maoist legislators has charged the Madhav administration with conspiring to disrupt the writing of a new constitution, breaking the peace process and pushing the country to conflict again.

Speaking to the anchor of the Nepalese ABC TV, Former Peace Minister Janardan Sharma has said that if he has not reached the site on time there would have been bloodshed. He has accused the Madhav administration of giving an order to bring in the weapons even firing the people in the way.

According to the Nepalese ABC TV, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has said that several trucks of the weapons brought into Kathmandu do not go against the CPA because these weapons are for training the armed police not for the Nepal Army.

The UCPN-Maoist has accused the Madhav administration of thinking to stop the payment of salaries to the members of the People’s Liberation Army staying in different cantonments. At the same time, the Madhav administration has accused the UCPN-Maoist of using the salaries paid to the members of the People’s Liberation Army for purchasing weapons.
