Obstructing House Session For Peace And Constitution

Issue 32, August 07, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 2, 2011: speaking to the reporters yesterday morning, President of Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala has said that lawmakers of his party have been obstructing the regular businesses of the House for peace and constitution, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. It is hard to believe. The opposite might be the truth.

The standard practice of the Nepalese lawmakers have been to hold the House hostage if they are in the opposition.

So, in the past, when Prachanda was a prime minister of the coalition government, the opposition lawmakers of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML obstructed the House for several days.

Then, the coalition of the NC and CPN-UML formed a new government. The lawmakers of the UCPN-Maoist took the turn to obstruct the House for several days.

Only the poor lawmakers belonging to the tiny political parties could not obstruct the House because the Speaker had suspended four lawmakers for a week from the office of the lawmakers for obstructing the House and removed them from the House by force in the recent past.

However, the Speaker has no such guts to remove the lawmakers of the major political parties.
