Paying Tribute To Justice Bam

June 1, 2012: The body of Justice Rana Bahadur Bam killed yesterday by the unidentified assailants was kept in the compound of the Supreme Court building in Kathmandu today from 8:00 in the morning for the public to pay their final tribute before cremating his body.

President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav reached the Supreme Court at 11:15 am to pay tribute to Justice Bam and paid tribute to him laying flowers on the body.

President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has condemned the assault on justice Rana Bahadur Bam in the broad daylight, and expressed deep sorrow on the demise of justice Bam and also extended condolences to the bereaved family, according to the news on ‘The Himalayan Times’ of today.

Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Nepal  Khilaraj Regmi, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda, President of NC Sushil Koirala, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal and Former-Speaker Subash Nembang also paid tribute to Justice Bam laying flowers on his body.

Former ministers, lawmakers, leaders and cadres of various political parties, social workers, lawyers and representatives of various organizations also paid tribute to Justice Bam.

The full bench meeting of the Supreme Court of Nepal held yesterday decided to perform funeral to Justice Bam with state honors at Aryaghat, ‘The Himalayan Times’ of today writes. The Supreme Court has decided to shut down the business of all courts across the country to mourn the death of justice Bam on Sunday.

Unidentified assailants shot Justice Bam nearby the UN Park at Shankhamul in Lalitpur while returning from the Bagalamukhi Temple on a car yesterday; he was rushed to Norvic hospital where he died at 1:30 while undergoing emergency treatment.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs set up a probe committee to investigate the murder of Justice Bam. Additional Inspector General (AIG) Kuber Singh Rana will preside over the committee.

Quoting an eyewitness, IGP Rabindra Pratap Shah told the reporters that Justice Bam, and his close friend Ramji Giri were returning from the Bagalamukhi temple when they arrived at the cremation site near the UN Park, Shankhamul, met the masked men on a motorbike coming from the opposite direction; driver Lama stopped the car for giving way to the motorcyclists but they did not move; then, security guard Mahesh Giri came out of the car and asked them to give the way to the car; instead of moving away they opened fire at the security guard; immediately Justice Bam and Ramji Giri rushed out of the car to escape from the firing but it became too late for the justice, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today reports.
