Kathmandu: At the meetings with the high level officials of China including Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Deputy Prime Minister holding the portfolio of Foreign Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara have had, both parties agreed on initiating the preliminary work on the Lhasa-Kathmandu and Kathmandu-Lumbini railroads, the RSS news on therisingnepal.org.np stated today.

 

DPM Mahara is currently in a visit to China from Sept. 6 to 11 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart. According to the news, DPM Mahara said, "When I assured the main leaders of China during the program on 'One Belt, One Road' that he had been there with the common and positive view from all major political parties of Nepal, the Chinese Premier Keqiang expressed that he would take initiative to accelerate the work, as per the agreements Nepal and China had in the past on the air and railroad connectivity between the two countries."

 

At the press conference held after the talks with the Nepalese counterpart in Beijing on Thursday, September 7, 2017, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, “China is willing to enhance high-level exchanges with Nepal and facilitate cooperation with the South Asian country in interconnectivity, reconstruction, trade and investment, energy and tourism”, the news on the globaltimes.cn stated.

 

"Large or small, countries should be treated equally," said Wang, adding that China never interferes in Nepal's domestic affairs, never attaches political conditions to economic cooperation, and never asks Nepal to pick sides in its foreign policy; China will continue to firmly support Nepal's efforts to safeguard its national independence and sovereign and territorial integrity, the news stated.

 

Wang said that the two sides will cooperate on the planning of a railway that runs across the China-Nepal border, repair two highways in Nepal, and will construct three ports along the border, the news stated.

 

On behalf of the president of Nepal, DPM Mahara extended an invitation to Chinese President Xi Jinping for Nepal visit. Chinese Premier Keqiang in turn extended an invitation to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba through DPM Mahara for visiting China, the RSS news stated.
