Seventh General Convention Of UCPN-Maoist And A New Government

Issue 06, February 10, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

February 8, 2013: the seventh general convention of UCPN-Maoist is concluding in Hetadua today. The convention was to elect a new set of leaders to run the party. The convention was supposed to end yesterday but the glitch in electing Central Committee members led to one-day extension of the convention. The seventh general convention has passed the political dossier of Chairman Prachanda yesterday.

Clarifying his comment on Mao at the convention in Hetauda, Chairman Prachanda said, “When I was saying that Mao’s deeds should also be under the party’s scanner, we did not mean to disgrace his contributions.” “Mao remained chairman till he could barely speak and the North Korean leader declared his son as his successor, both are not good. We should develop a trend of paving way for the new generation.” Chairman Prachanda said that the referendum on border disputes was included in his document erroneously and that it would be deleted, according to the news on thehimalayantimes.com of today.

At the closed-door session of the seventh general convention of the UCPN-Maoist in Hetauda yesterday, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda said that the magic formula to end the political deadlock was to form a government under the leadership of Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi to hold the elections. An offer that he thinks the opposition parties won’t be able to refuse. His proposal was endorsed by the convention with a huge applause, according to HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE.

The Chief Justice has not spoken publicly whether he would accept or reject the offer of the UCPN-Maoist to head a new government for holding the elections to a new CA. However, all the political leaders need to agree on it and then amend the Interim Constitution of Nepal to make possible the Chief Justice to take over.
