Boycotting Parliamentary Session

Issue 23, June 7, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On Sunday, May 31, 2009, the Maoist members of the parliament boycotted the parliamentary session protesting the Speaker’s decision on not taking up in the parliament for discussing the ‘Resolution Motion’ against the Presidential unconstitutional action of directly ordering the Chief of Army Staff to stay on in the job overruling the decision of the Council of Ministers on firing the Chief of Army Staff. Speaker Subash Nemwang has taken the decision on not discussing the ‘Resolution Motion’ after the Advisory Committee on Parliamentary Affairs has decided so saying the issue is pending at the Supreme Court of Nepal. The Maoist members have said that they will not allow the parliamentary session to end or to run it, too until the presidential unconstitutional step is corrected.

The United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist has also decided to launch a peaceful movement throughout the country against the unconstitutional presidential action on the streets until the President rectifies it.
