March 6, 2010: speaking at the function of the opening of ‘Simadzu Nepal Pharma Expo of 2010’ held at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu on March 5, 2010, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has acknowledged that the Nepalese police system is faulty that has caused lawlessness and security lapses in the country. The Prime Minister has also said that he has been sad to learn some police personnel have set up a link between the criminals and the police personnel; the weak and incompetent police in particular have developed the relationship with the criminals.
The acknowledgement of the link between the police and the criminals by the Prime Minister is the serious challenge to Home Minster Bhim Rawal that has been saying the police system and the security situation have improved after the introduction of his special security plan although the statistics shows that 58 people have been killed since the introduction of the special security plan.
Speaking at a news conference at the Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal on Friday, March 5, 2010, spokesperson for the Nepal Police, Bigyan Raj Sharma has said that the police headquarters has issued a letter of interrogation to DSPs: Ganesh Chand and Arjun Chand as they have called Deepak Shahi alias Babbu: the mastermind behind the murder of Jamin Shah: the media man on February 7 according to the state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ of March 6, 2010.
Spokesman Sharma has revealed that Arjun is working at the District Police Office in the Dhading District and Ganesh at the Commission for Investigation into Abuse of Authority.
Spokesman Sharma has also said that the police have not arrest Chand and Surendra Bahadur Singh as they are still serving at the police and could not be arrested until and unless their connection in the incident is proved. Former DSP Jagadish Chand has already fled Nepal and currently taking shelter in India after he received a tip off from the security body of his probable arrest.
