Prime Minister Said Local Elections in February/April
Speaking at the all-party meeting held yesterday, Prime Minister Prachanda said that local elections would be held in February/April 2017, preparations have been made to this end, the news in “gorkhapatra” of today stated.
The Prime Minister has assured the opposition that has been skeptical about the local elections would be held on time. The Madheshi leaders have been demanding to resolve the issues of the demarcation of States amending the Constitution before holding any elections. The new coalition government of NC, Maoist-Center and other fringe political parties has been for resolving the Madheshi issues as soon as possible.
The all-party meeting also has decided to extend the term of the Commission on Restructuring for two weeks to complete the demarcation of village councils, and municipalities.
The Election Commission has been saying that the demarcation of village councils and municipalities has to be done on time, and the Bills on local elections have to be passed 120 days before the day of holding elections. The Election Commission has already submitted the draft bills to the government.
Speaking to the families of the people killed and disappeared during the people’s war, Prime Minister Prachanda said that he would retrieve the file on the decision made during his first term of prime minister on declaring the people killed and disappeared as martyrs and pay NPR one million to the families of each martyr, and if he could not find the file then he would made a new decision. He said that he would pay the amount in two installments. He also said that he would complete the remaining work of the peace process.
Foreign Visits of Nepalese Special Envoys
Deputy Prime Minister holding the Finance Portfolio Mr. Krishna Bahadur Mahara as a special envoy of Prime Minister Prachanda has met with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing on August 16, 2016. He delivered the invitation of the Nepalese president to the Chinese president to visit Nepal, and the invitation of the Nepalese prime minister to his Chinese counterpart to visit Nepal. The last time the Chinese President has visited Nepal was in 1995, the news in “gorkhapatra” stated.
Special envoy Mahara is seeking the audiences with the Chinese President and Prime Minister, according to the Nepalese media. The Chinese have been concerned with the enforcement of the agreements the previous Nepalese government had reached with the Chinese government.
Deputy Prime Minister holding the Home Portfolio Mr. Bimalendra Nidhi as a special envoy of Prime Minister Prachanda is visiting India to make an arrangement for the visit of the Indian President Pranav Mukherjee to Nepal, and to improve the relations with India, according to the news in “gorkhapatra” of today. On Friday and Saturday Special Envoy Nidhi will be meeting with the high Indian officials.
Indian ambassador to Nepal Mr. Ranjit Rae met with DPM Nidhi at the latter’s office in Kathmandu on August 16, 2016. The spokesman for the Home Minister said that they discussed the matters concerning the visit of Prime Minister Prachanda to India, the news in “gorkhapatra” stated.

Speaking at the congratulatory and best wishes event held by the Federation of Nepalese Journalists in Kathmandu on August 16, 2016, newly appointed Minister for Communication and Information Surendra Kumar Karki said, “Every morning when I took a look at newspapers my head spins reading the negative news.” So, he has urged the reporters to write the positive news at least once a week; it does not means that the reporters need to write in praise of the government. The media should be always in opposition, he has said that he understands the fact but it is the duty of reporters to report on the facts, according to the news in “gorkhapatra” of today.
