Prime Minister Oli’s China Visit

KTM Metro Reporter

June 14, 2018

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Oli is visiting China starting on June 19, 2018 for six days, and would back home on Sunday, June 24, 2018. He is taking with him four ministers. They are Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth, and Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Barshman Pun, the news in “gorkhapatra” stated on June 14, 2018.

The China visiting team also will visit Lhasa: capital of Autonomous Region of Tibet, and meet the provincial communist leaders there.

Prime Minister Oli taking so many ministers with him to China would surely impress the Chinese leaders that the current strong government is serious about multipurpose development in Nepal. In addition to the development of the railway infrastructures, the prime minister also is serious about the hydropower development with the investments of Chinese companies and the government as well. Probably, the home minister might be tipped off by the Chinese security official to maintain the law and order in Nepal.

Prime Minister Oli would mainly focus on implementing the previous agreements he had reached with the Chinese authorities. Those agreements had been stalled because the successive governments did not bother to follow on the agreements. Now, Oli has the five-year term. He might be able to see how projects with the support of China are implemented and even completed before his term of office ends.
