Civil Law Takes Effect

Kathmandu: The Civil Law crafted following the new Constitution has taken effect from today (Bhadra 1). National Human Rights Commission of Nepal, and some legal experts have said it is the best civil law.

 

Punishment for crime

 

Five-year imprisonment or NPR 50,000 fine or both to anybody for torturing somebody at the police, army or other officials custody;

 

Up to 15 years in jail or up to NPR 500,000 fine for kidnapping;

 

Up to three-year imprisonment for killing cow or bull;

 

Up to five-year imprisonment for multiple marriage;

 

 

Criminal code

 

Up to three-year Imprisonment or up to NPR 30,000 fine for obstructing the public traffic;

 

Up to one-year imprisonment for spreading misinformation;

 

Up to five-year imprisonment or up to NPR 50,000 fine for adulterating foods;

 

Up to three-year imprisonment for selling low grade for high-grade price;

 

Up to one-year imprisonment for insulting behavior toward others in the public places;

 

Up to three-year imprisonment for insulting the national anthem, national flag, and national emblem;

 

 

Civil code

 

No picture of anybody without approval;

 

No publication of private life without approval;

 

No marriage before 20 yeas of age for both men and women;

 

If a child born of an unmarried couple is proved then the couple is considered automatically married;

 

Every son or daughter has to honor, respect, and take care of parents;

 

A baby in a womb has the right to property;

 

Could employ a person of only at least 14 years of age with her/his consent;

 

Nobody should be forced to work for more than eight hours.
