December 20, 2010: House Speaker has read out the letter sent by President Ram Baran Yadav before postponing the session for December 23 and 24, 2010. He has informed the parliamentarians that the president has called the special session at the request of the 187 parliamentarians of six political parties including the UCPN-Maoist; and they have also registered a motion at the parliamentary secretariat to initiate a fresh election to a new prime minister ending the previous one.
The House Speaker has said that following the decision of the Business Advisory Committee of the Parliament, he has set December 23 and 24 for discussing the motion registered by the UCPN-Maoist; at the same time, to have time for the parliamentarians to register an amendment to the motion if anybody wants to on December 22 according to the state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ of December 20, 2010.
Leaders of NC and CPN-UML want a regular session rather than the special session. So, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal has urged his colleague Madhav Nepal to recommend the president for a regular session.
