Kathmandu, May 20, 2016: Ten Maoist parties splintered from the parent CPN-Maoist into tiny small parties came together and declared united in Kathmandu on May 19, 2016. The new party they named is CPN-Maoist-Center. Prachanda is elected to the Chairman of the party. They declare that they would hold a party convention in a year.
The few prominent figures of the previous Maoist party have been Mohan Vaidhya Kiran: chairman of the CPN-Maoist-Revolutionary, Dr Baburam Bhattarai: coordinator of the new force, and Biplav of CPN-Maoist that did not join the new Maoist party.
Among the three past high-flying Maoists, Dr Bhattarai has taken a new political course, and has ben running on the path shown by the Indian establishment, and aiming at setting up a new party but he lost a significant number of top Maoists he has taken with him to the new Maoist party formed on May 19, 2016.
Chairman of the CPN-Maoist-Revolutionary Mohan Vaidhya Kiran has been holding up together with his colleague and deputy CP Gajurel. He has lost all his major party figures to the new party. He would need to start his party from the grassroots level if he has to continue his Maoist ideology for which he has sacrificed so many things in the past.
Biplav of CPN-Maoist has been trying to continue functioning his party as in the conflict period but it might have been irrelevant in the current context. He would need to face isolation if he does not join in the new part of all Maoists.
The UCPN-Maoist has been placed in the third place after the second election to a constituent assembly because of so many Maoist parties working against each other in the polls. Vaidhya Maoist came out openly against Prachanda’s UCPN-Maoist and did everything possible to defeat his party.
