Electoral Constituency Delineation Commission Submits Its Report

Kathmandu: Chairman of Electoral Constituency Delineation Commission Kamalnarayan Dass submitted its report to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at his Baluwatar official resident on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. It has delineated 165 constituencies for the federal House of Representatives, and 330 constituencies for the seven provincial houses of representatives, the news in “gorkhapatra” of today stated. It has paved the way for the Election Commission to work on holding elections to the provincial houses of representatives and the federal house of representatives in two phases: one on November 26, and another on December 7, 2017.

 

On Wednesday, August 30, the Election Commission has enforced the Election code of Conduct for the third-phase local units election to be held on September 18, 2017 for making the elections clean, impartial and transparent. The election code will be applicable to 1) GON and its ministers, 2) Local agencies/units, 3) Staffers of Local agencies/units, 4) Public corporations and their staffers, 5) State and semi-State corporations and their staffers, 6) Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force of Nepal, National Investigation Department, and the staffers working at them, 7) Staffers involved in the elections, 8) Public office-holding persons, and to the candidates after they filed their nominations, the news in “gorkhapatra” of today stated.

 

The Election Commission has warned former prime minister also the senior leader of CPN-UML Madhav Nepal of the violation of the election code of conduct after he was found wearing a cap with the election symbol of his party in Janakpur, and also the leaders and cadres of Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal for protesting against Madhav Nepal while in Janakpur, and not allowing him to address the peaceful rally in Janakpur.

 

Nine NC lawmakers have registered an amendment to the Election Bill for making provision for the criminals indicted by the Courts, for enabling them to be candidates for the public-elected offices causing the delay in passing the bill the Election Commission needed so urgently to hold the provincial and federal elections.
