By KTM Metro Reporter

December 23, 2010: President and Supreme Commander of Nepal Army Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has conferred the ‘Honorary Chief General of the Nepal Army’ on visiting Indian Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh at a special function held at the President’s Office, Shital Niwas on Wednesday, December 22, 2010; Nepalese President Dr. Yadav has also conferred a sword, insignia and a cap on him at the function, the state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ writes today.

Nepalese CoAS Chhatra Man Singh Gurung has received a similar honor from Indian President Pratibha Patil during his India visit. Nepal and India have been conferring such high-profile honorary titles on each other’s Army Chiefs during their goodwill visit after the renewed and special diplomatic relationship Nepal and India have started since 1950s.

In the talks with the high officials of the Government of Nepal, Indian CoAS Singh has said that India is ready to assist Nepal with military assistance and other logistics to the Nepal Army if the Nepalese Government officially asks the Government of India.

The Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) the Government of Nepal has reached with the UCPN-Maoist prohibits both the People’s Liberation Army and the Nepal Army to add any new arms or manpower.

Nepalese CoAS Chhatra Man Singh Gurung has invited his Indian counterpart Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh to Nepal. Indian CoAS Singh has arrived in Kathmandu on Monday, December 20, 2010 for a three-day visit.
