Non-resident Nepalis Want To Keep Citizenships
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On January 13, 2010, representatives of the Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) have called on Prime Minister Madhav Nepal at his office Singha Durbar and have urged him not to annul their citizenships once they get the citizenships of the countries they have been working. For various reasons they have to receive the citizenships of the country of their work, once they receive the foreign citizenships their Nepalese citizenships are terminated. They have explicitly said that they are not for a dual citizenship but they simply want to keep the Nepalese citizenships even after getting the foreign citizenships. It is not a dual citizenship but keeping a Nepalese citizenship according to the representatives of the NRNA. They have been concerned very much with the draft provision made in the Draft Report on Directive Principles of State and Citizenship for automatically loosing a Nepalese citizenship once s/he acquires a foreign citizenship.
