December 6, 2010: following the government’s announcement of increasing the tax on the petroleum products: Rs 4 per liter on petrol and Rs 2 per liter on diesel in the budget for the fiscal year 2010, the state-run oil company called Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has increased the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas today. Consequently, the price of cooking gas has gone up to Rs 1350 per 15kg cylinder increasing the price by Rs 75, of petrol to Rs 88 per liter from Rs 84, of diesel to Rs 68.50 from Rs 65.50.
This is the third time the Madhav government has increased the prices of petroleum products. Before Madhav Nepal has become the Prime Minister, the price of petrol has been Rs 75 per liter, of diesel Rs 55 per liter and of cooking gas Rs 1100 per 15 kg cylinder.
Anybody with a simple knowledge of arithmetic can calculate how much money Madhav Nepal is making squeezing the already poor millions of Nepalis.
