Supreme Court Justice Defying Minister

Issue 51, December 19, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 12, 2010: at the Judicial Council (JC) meeting held on Friday, December 10, defying the resistance of Minister for Law and Justice Prem Bahadur Singh, Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha has made decision on recommending the parliament to impeach a Supreme Court justice and two appellate court judges following the findings of a high-level investigation commission, myrepublica.com writes.

Ministers including prime minister are always prefer to set the corrupt state employees free with impunity for the fear of they might need to face the same fate. If they set the tradition of punishing the corrupt government and judicial staffs, then the turn of ministers will come soon to face the charges of corruption. So, ministers rather protect the army, police and civil servants involved in criminal charges and corruption.

For example, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal and His Defense Minister Bidhya Bhandari have promoted Toran Jung Bahadur Singh involved in enforced disappearance to the second-in-command of the Nepal Army and protected Major Nirajan Basnet involved in killing a minor.
