Horse-trading has been intensified in the Nepalese politics for making senior leader of Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal defeated in the two constituencies in the elections for a Constituent Assembly-cum-parliament a Prime Minister.

After the unsuccessful talk with the leader of Madheshi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) Jayaprakash Gupta for securing the support for a to-be-formed joint government of CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal turned to Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-Nepal) Kamal Thapa for his support for a joint government.

Former Prime Minister and President of NC Girija Prasad Koirala called Chairman of Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party (NWPP) Narayan Man Bijukche over to his residence at Maharajgunj, Kathmandu and urged him to support a joint government of CPN-UML and NC. However, Chairman Bijukche put forward his 18-point conditions for supporting any government. Bijukche’s party holds five seats in the current parliament.

Similarly, senior leader of CPN-United Vishnu Bahadur Manandhar has told that his party has not decided yet on supporting any party for forming a new government. His party also holds five seats in the parliament.

However, mid-level leaders of CPN-UML and NC engaged in garnering support for a joint government have claimed that they have secured the support of 292 members of parliament in writing. Even if it is true, they are still short of nine votes for a majority in the parliament required for forming a new government.

Similarly, Caretaker Prime Minister and Chairman of UCPN-Maoist has written a letter to the leaders of the MPRF urging them to support the UCPN-Maoist for fighting for the suzerainty of people and in turn giving support for forming a government headed by the MPRF leaders.

Chairman Prachanda also met with RPP-Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa and urged him to be united all nationalists and fight for the suzerainty of people.

MPRF Parliamentary Leader Bijya Kumar Gacchadar told the reporters that 35 parliamentary members of the MPF and he is going to support the to-be-formed joint government of CPN-UML and NC.
