Eighth Day Of Dashain Festival

Issue 41, October 9, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 4, 2011: today is the eighth day of Dashain festival. Nepalis have marked this day visiting the shrines to the deity called Goddess Durga or Bhagavati across Nepal. Some of them have offered sacrifices of animals and birds.

The Nevah community feast on the dish called ‘ku-chhi-voya’ as the festival dinner. They don’t wash the dishes on this night believing that the dishes would turn into gold next morning. Then they visit the deity called Tripure-sundari: one of the nine goddesses called Navadurga: nine manifestations of Goddess Durga.

Everybody in Nepal is in a relax mood. Nobody is working. The chaotic vehicular traffic has disappeared. Only a few public transport vehicles and some private cars are running on the streets of the Kathmandu Valley. Everybody is enjoying feast.
