Maoists Committed to Writing a New Constitution
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On September 11, 2009, speaking at the mass rally held by the Maoists at the open theater in Kathmandu, former Prime Minister Prachanda has said that the Constituent Assembly and writing a new constitution is the child of the Maoists so Maoists will at any cost save the Constituent Assembly from any sorts of external attacks and write a new constitution of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.
Former Prime Minister Prachanda said, “I have seriously thought about why the Nepalis have lost the power again and again to the despotic rulers starting from 1951 and ending in 2005, and have found that the army has not been under the control of the civilian government; so I wanted to bring the army under the elected government;”
“Going against the democratic values and principles, the so-called eighteen-party leaders have gone to the ceremonial President with an application, as the leaders have been used to go to the king applying for the job of Prime Minister during the last fifteen years. I told the President, do not try to be a king, it will bring disaster to the nation;”
“I have told the parliamentary leaders and Girijababu to launch an united movement against the king once and for all but they did not care of my proposal until Gyanendra has kicked them and then they have no alternative other than to turn to the Maoists. So, somebody needs to kick them again so that they turn to Maoists. It does not mean that I want Gyanendra back. I appeal specially to the reporters, do not distort my statement;”
“We have only two guns when we have started the people’s war in 1996; one of them did not even work. We have no bullets and so on. Today, we have hundred of thousands of fighters;”
“One of the leaders of the Nepali Congress has said that all Maoist leaders need to be behind bars for saving democracy. The people will decide whom to put behind bars and whom to welcome with garlands. The people have voted for us; the leaders defeated by the people need to go to jail not us;”
“Currently, the person defeated in two constituents is the Prime Minister, perhaps time will soon come a person defeated in three constituents will be the President, the current cabinet is led by the defeated people;”
“I got a lot more congratulations when I resigned from the Prime Minister than I became Prime Minister from the national and international friends. Some of the foreign friends have even said that at last Nepal has a leader who does not stick to a chair at any cost, who wants to serve the people.”
Former Prime Minister Prachanda spoke for an hour at the open theater rally in Kathmandu.
