December 29, 2010: representatives of the 27 parties in the Constituent Assembly (CA) at a meeting held on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 agreed on setting up a taskforce of either the whips of all the parties or of their representatives to resolve the remaining 83 contentious issues of the new constitution according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today. The seven-member High Level Taskforce led by Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has settled 127 out of 210 contentious issues during two months before its term has expired on December 11, 2010. The UCPN-Maoist leaders did not wish to extend the term of this taskforce stating the remaining issues should be settled on a formal committee.

The ban on importing precious metals is lifted on Monday, December 27, 2010, enabling the commercial banks to import gold 15kgs a day in total, and silver as much as they want. But individuals can buy gold and silver from the banks with the recommendations from Nepal Gems and Jewelers Association (NGJA), Gold and Silver Artists Association (GSAA) and Federation of Handicraft Associations Nepal (FHAN) Himalayan Service News reports.

Businesspersons engaged in the tourism industry have supported the executive director and his colleagues of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) for paying an advance to a French company for buying two aircrafts for the NAC stating the price of aircrafts has been drastically increased and without these aircrafts, the celebration of Nepal Tourism Year 2011 will be meaningless. Recently, the Commission on Investigation Into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a lawsuit against the executive director and his colleagues stating the advance money they have paid to a French company goes against the rules.

Hearing on the corruption case filed by the CIAA, the three-member bench of Judges Gauri Bahadur Karki, Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Chalise of the Special Court has summoned the executive director of the NAC and his five colleagues on December 26, 2010, to present before the court within fifteen days ‘The Himalayan Times’ online writes.

The Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has on Sunday, December 26, 2010 has directed the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MoPPW), Ministry of Local Development (MoLD), and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to put the construction of four overhead bridges on hold in Kathmandu, as the contractor has not followed the terms and conditions set by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works according to Nepalnews.com.

On December 26, 2010, officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal on the recommendation of his Deputy Bijaya Gacchedar has fired the Minister of State for Physical Planning and Works Sanjaya Kumar Sah obviously for squabbling with his boss Gacchedar and forming a new breakaway party splitting from the Madhesh People’s Rights Forum-Democratic.

Supporters of recently fired minister of state Sanjay Kumar Sah have waved black flags to Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Gacchedar at Kalyanpur of Saptari district on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 chanting slogans against him and charging him with dishonoring the aspirations of Madheshi and accusing him of not meeting the Madheshis’ demands according to Nepalnews.com. Breaking away from the Madheshi People’s Rights Forum-Democratic of Gacchedar last week, Sah has formed a Madhesh Kranti Forum fighting for the rights and demands of the Madheshi people if necessary with arms.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the legislature-parliament on Tuesday. December 28, 2010 has directed the government of officiating Prime minister Madhav Nepal to get back the unpaid Rs 193.59 million from five casinos such as Casino Anna, Casino Royal, Casino Shangrilla, Casino Nepal and Casino Fulbari within a month otherwise terminate their licenses for running casino, nealnews.com writes.
