Nepal Oil Corporation Increases Prices of Kerosene And Diesel
By KTM Metro Reporter
July 11, 2011: the state-run Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has increased the price of kerosene and diesel by Rs 5 per liter. Now, the price of kerosene and diesel has reached Rs 73.50 per liter.
The NOC says that it has to increase the price of kerosene and diesel to decrease its loss caused by the price difference between the purchase and sale price, as the Indian Oil Corporation has increased the price of these two petroleum products.
The direct impact of the price rise of diesel will be on the transportation of goods, as most of the large trucks used for transportation run on diesel. So, the goods will have an additional value added to the goods due to the price rise of diesel and will be costly to the consumers.
Kerosene is the poor people’s fuel. So, the government has been providing subsidy on kerosene to ease the poor people’s lives but the unscrupulous retail dealers of the petroleum products have reaped the subsidy, as they adulterate the high price petrol with the cheap subsidized kerosene.
