Election in Thailand
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
In the general election held in Thailand on December 23, 2007, the People Power Party backed by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra won the majority seats in the parliament but not enough to form a government of its own. The election result was a blow to the junta that killed democracy in Thailand in September 2006.
On Tuesday, December 25, 2007, Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra told the reporters in Hong Kong that he would return to Thailand after the party he backed emerged as a front-runner. Former Prime Minister Thaksin was removed from power in the bloodless coup of the military backed by the king in September 2006. Then, the junta charged him with corruption and barred him from taking part in politics. Since then he has been living in exile.
