Dr. Karan Singh Opens Lokkirti Mahabihar In Patan

December 1, 2012: former minister of India and President of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi Dr Karan Singh opened the renovated portion of the Lok Kirti Mahabihar done with the Indian funding at a function held in Patan today. The Lok Kirti Mahabihar about 700 years old is one of the hundreds of large and small ancient Buddhist monasteries built in the Kathmandu Valley, according to the news of the RSS/thehimalayantimes.com.

The Indian government had provided the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction with Rs. 7.3 million to restore the Lok Kirti Mahabihar as the part of restoration of nine historically and culturally importance heritages in Patan.

At the initiative of the Society for Lalitpur Development, the renovation of nine historical heritages in the Lalitpur Sub Metropolis is going on with the funding of Rs. 32.6 million provided by the government of India.

Speaking at the function, Dr Singh: the President of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi pledged to continue the Indian funding for renovation of historical and religious heritages in Nepal in the coming days to strengthen the Nepal-India religious and cultural ties, according to the RSS news. 

Dr. Singh was in Nepal also to attend the two-day seminar titled 'Malviya's Contribution to Modern Education-Banaras Hindu University and its impact in Nepal’ held in Kathmandu from November 30 to December 1, 2012 on the occasion of Madan Mohan Malviya's 150th birth anniversary. Dr. Singh also presented Head of State: President Dr. Ram Bran Yadav to visit India and receive Honorary Doctorate from the BHU in the last week of December 2012.
