January 2, 2014: thousands of sons of the departed parents have performed a ‘sradha’ at Uttargaya, of the Betrawati Ghat on the border between Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts yesterday: the Puse Aunshi means the new moon day in the month called Poush in the Vikram Calendar prevailing in Nepal, according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’
Nepalis believe that performing the rituals of ‘sradha’ at Uttargaya on the new moon day of poush will help the souls of departed people to move from the kingdom of Yama Raj to the abode of Lord Vishnu. The abode is called Baikuntha.
Nepalis also believe that souls of departed people travel to the kingdom of Yama Raj for a year from the day of death, and enter into the kingdom on the day of ‘Gaijatra’, as the entrance opened to all the souls on this day. Yama Raj decides the destiny of souls depending on the deeds of the people when they were in the human world.
