Opposition Continues To Hold House Session Hostage
By KTM Metro Reporter
January 27, 2012: the opposition lawmakers particularly the NC and CPN-UML lawmakers have been holding the House session hostage for the ransom of revoking the cabinet decision on legalizing the actions of the people’s courts and governments set up by the Maoists during the insurgency. Lawmakers of the UCPN-Maoist have requested the opposition lawmakers for not obstructing the regular business of the House, as it is accountable to the people, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes.
Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has promised the opposition parties that he would not enforce the decision immediately but the opposition leaders have been demanding the immediate rollback.
Initially, the opposition leaders particularly of the NC and CPN-UML had threatened not to talk to the Maoists on any subject until the government revokes the cabinet decision on legalizing the actions of the people’s courts and governments. However, they have started off talking to the Maoist leaders since Monday January 23 but they have not made any progress toward resolving the problems of the cabinet decision.
The UCPN-Maoist has decided not to revoke the cabinet decision on legalizing the actions of the people’s courts and governments. So, leaders of the UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML could not make any progress on resolving the problem of the cabinet decision.
The House session has been the victim of the political squabble, as the opposition lawmakers have held the House session hostage for the ransom of revoking the cabinet decision. This is the easiest thing to do for the lawmakers. However, the past obstruction of the House for more than 50 days without any results is any guide, lawmakers have a little chance to gain from it this time, too.
