Maoists Call Off Traffic Shutdown

On December 8, 2009, Maoists have called off the planned vehicular traffic shutdown on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 following the urge of the public in general and in view of the ongoing ‘Human Rights National Magna Meet Of 2009’ in Kathmandu. The Maoists have planned to shut down the vehicular traffic on Wednesday. December 9, 2009 following their third round protest against the unconstitutional move of the ceremonial President on directly writing a letter to the army chief overriding the Prime Minister’s decision on firing him.
However, the trade unions have continued their planned shutdown of factories and other company businesses. They have also hold a rally at Tundikhel in Kathmandu in protest against the President’s unconstitutional move.
President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav opened the ‘Human Rights National Magna Meet Of 2009’ in Kathmandu on December 8, 2009. Addressing the opening function, President Yadav has said that the Constituent Assembly needs to complete the writing of a new constitution within the deadline. He also has hoped that Magna Meet will help in completing a new constitution.
