Job security for Nepalis in Malaysia

Issue 05, February 01, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

Recently, the Malaysian government announced the possible job-cuts due to the international economic meltdown, so the government not only stopped the recruitment of foreign workers but also instructed the industrial and business houses to first lay off the foreign workers if they have to lay-off. It has put the jobs of thousands of Nepalis working in Malaysia at risk.

The government has made a decision on diplomatic measures to ensure the job security of Nepalis working in Malaysia. To this end, on Sunday, January 25, 2009, the Ministry of Labor and Transport Management held a meeting of overseas employment experts and representatives from foreign employment agencies to discuss the subject matters.
