Nepal Royalty Holds No Swiss Bank Accounts

Issue 51, December 16, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 11, 2012: speaking at the regular press conference held at the Ministry of Information and Communications today, spokesperson for the Nepal Trust Office Sharad Raj Bista said that the Swiss government through its Embassy in Kathmandu has replied to the letter of the government of Nepal inquiring about the bank accounts of the late King Birendra and his family members in the Swiss bank, and stated that the late King Birendra and his family do not hold any bank accounts or other assets in their names in Switzerland, writes nepalnews.com quoting the state-run news agency RSS.

Some Nepalis strongly believe that not Birendra but his father Mahendra had had bank accounts in some European countries that might be the UK, and Switzerland. So, the government of Nepal needs to make inquiry about the bank accounts of Mahendra when asking for the bank accounts of Birendra.
