On December 1, 2009, the Cabinet meeting has decided to declare the religious guru Falgu-nanda of the Kirant people a national celebrity thus honoring one of the celebrities of the ethnic people. Maha guru Falgu-nanda is the founder of the Kiranti religion.

On December 1, 2009, speaking at the function held in Pokhara, Chairman of Constituent Assembly Subash Nemwang has said that the writing of a new constitution will be completed on time despite the current political deadlock. The writing of a new constitution has not been obstructed although it has been indirectly affected by the current political deadlock.

On December 1, 2009, Finance Minister Surendra Pandedy has said that the 19,675 Maoist combatants living in the cantonments are the state employees, as the state has been paying them Rs. 7,000 per person per month at the annual cost of two billion rupees to the state.

On November 30, 2009, political leaders have urged the UCPN-Maoist to call off the program on declaring autonomous federal states suggesting not to break values and principles of the Interim Constitution (IC), Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA), the Constituent Assembly (CA) and the aspiration of general public for peace and political stability in the country. The UCPN-Maoist is the largest party in the CA.

Most of the members of the CPN-UML in the politburo meeting have urged the leadership to focus on the task of writing a new constitution based on the consensus politics rather than sticking to power by hook and crook.

The CPN-UML has been divided into one faction for continuing the coalition with the NC and another for the coalition of the left parties. The faction opting for the coalition with the NC has been accusing other faction of working in favor of the Maoists. Recently, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has said that the leaders not satisfied with his faction should quit the party. In countering his statement, leaders of other faction have said that the party is not the dowry of the Prime Minister’s mother so that he could use it as he likes.

Members of six political parties together have jointly padlock the district administration offices in the Mahotttari districts calling for the resignation of Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Sharat Singh Bhandari for using the excessive police force for repressing the peaceful rally held to protest the police action against Rajaram Yadav.
