Budget For FY 2012 And The Opposition

Issue 26, June 24, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 22, 2012: Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun accompanied by Finance Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota went to see Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal on Friday morning, June 22, 2012 to appease him to allow the government to introduce a full-fledged budget for the fiscal year 2012; the Finance Minister had similarly met with President of NC Sushil Koirala, nepalnews.com and thehimalayantimes.com write today.

Mr. Khanal has told the Finance Minister that the caretaker government had no rights to introduce a budget through ordinance promulgated by the president; and told the Finance Minister quit the office to make room someone take it.

The Finance Minister also had a meeting with former Finance Ministers such as Dr. Ram Saran Mahat of NC and Surendra Pandey of CPN-UML at Hayatt Hotel in Kathmandu earlier this week, and discussed with them the budget for the FY 2012 but the results of the discussion was not known.

The Finance Minister would not succeed in building a consensus on a new budget for 2012, as the opposition wants nothing but the office of prime minister; so, the opposition would stake everything possible for getting back the power lost to the coalition of the UCPN-Maoist and the UDMF.
