Protest Rallies in Myanmar

On Wednesday September 26, 2007, the securities forces of the junta government opened fire on demonstrators in Yangon, Myanmar after the demonstrators refused to honor the warnings of the security forces to disperse, and killed three monks and two civilians, and rounded up hundreds of Buddhist monks and taken to the army trucks. The military junta's announcement on the state radio and television acknowledged that its security forces killed one person and injured several in controlling the protestors. The junta forces raided several monasteries and arrested more than 200 monks in various parts of Myanmar.

Issuing a joint statement on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, the United States and the European Union condemned the use of forces against the peaceful demonstrators and called on the junta rulers to open a dialogue with pro-democracy leaders. The UN Security Council called on the junta government for restraint. On Wednesday, September 26, in New York, the UN Security Council sat in an emergency session to discuss the crisis in Myanmar.

On September 27, 2007, the security forces of the junta opened fire on the demonstrators killing eight civilians and one Japanese photojournalist. The junta recruited orphans for an elite armed force in the army and indoctrinated them with the idea of going against anybody that challenges the junta. So, they could misbehave with the highly revered monks and killed the unarmed innocent demonstrators.

The Japanese Foreign Ministry called the Myanmar Ambassador to protest the use of forces against the peaceful demonstrators. China called on the Myanmar junta government act with restraint. Indian Foreign Minister called on the junta government to reconcile with the opposition.

On September 27, 2007, Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES), Nepal has condemned the use of force against the peaceful demonstrators and the security forces suppressing the protest rally held by Buddhist monks against the Myanmar military government, and demanded an immediate release of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and the restoration of the democratic government in Myanmar.

On September 28, 2007, Nepalese students held a protest rally at the Myanmar embassy, Kathmandu against the suppression of the peaceful demonstration in Myanmar.
