Prachanda Meets President

Issue 40, October 4, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter In Kathmandu

On September 30, 2009, talking to the reporters after meeting with President Ram Baran Yadav, former Prime Minister Prachanda has said that the talks with the President has been very fruitful to end the current political deadlock, the President has been very serious about the current political events and wished to see the consensus politics. Replying to the queries of the reporters, former Prime Minister Prachanda has said that the talks with the President has not met the Maoists’ demand for debating over the President’s unconstitutional move in the legislature.

On May 3, 2009, former Prime Minister Prachanda had resigned from the job protesting the unconstitutional action of the ceremonial President directly writing a letter to the then Chief of Army Staff and ordering him to stay on in the job, and this action has resulted into the current political deadlock. So, President Yadav has been solely responsible for the current political events in Nepal. It is quite unfortunate for Nepal; the first President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal has overstepped the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007.
