On February 17, 2009, three lawyers: Shree Krishna Subedi, Ram Krishna Kafle and Tank Raj Aryal jointly filed a case at the Supreme Court of Nepal appealing for stopping the Nepal Army from hiring new recruits, as it goes against the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007, the Comprehensive Peace Accord of 2006, and the Agreement on Management of Arms and Armies of 2006.

On February 17, 2009, in response to the call of opposition leader and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala made for consensus politics while addressing the rally held in Butwal at the time of inauguration of the Eight General Convention of the CPN-UML, the Central Secretariat of the UCPN-Maoist decided that Prime Minister and Chairman of the UCPN-Maoist Prachanda would hold discussions with Former Prime Minister Koirala.

On February 18, 2009, speaking at the mass rally held at Tundikhel in Kathmandu to mark the 59th anniversary of democracy, Prime Minister Prachanda repeated his commitment to take the peace process conclusive ending, writing a new conclusion with the support of all political parties.
