Holding Constitution Writing Hostage For Ransom Of Change In Cabinet Decision
By KTM Metro Reporter
January 19, 2012: leaders of NC and CPN-UML have refused to attend the meeting of UCPN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML and UDMF to resolve the disputed issues concerning a new constitution until the government revoked the decision on legalizing the decisions made by the courts and governments set up by the Maoists during the conflict period.
Perhaps, no sensible person would disagree on the demands made by the NC and CPN-UML leaders but certainly disagree on holding the writing constitution hostage for the ransom of meeting their demands. Their concerns have nothing to do with the constitution writing. They need to expedite the writing of a new constitution in view of the short time available but these NC and CPN-UML guys have been more politically motivated and holding the constitution writing hostage for ransom of toppling the current government.
Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal has said that his party would not participate in any meeting with the UCPN-Maoist until the current government revokes the decision on legalizing the decisions made by the courts and governments set up by the Maoists during the conflict period, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes.
