One Police Officer After Another In Judicial Custody

July 20, 2011: lately, one police officer after another involved in the so-called Darfur scandal reporting to the Special Court has been in the judicial custody for not being able to pay the bail amount. The higher the involvement of the officer the greater the amount of bail amount set by the Special court.
Now, the turn is of the Former Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP) Ramesh Chand Thakuri. He could not pay the bail amount of Rs 70 million and has quietly moved in to the judicial custody yesterday evening. Chand is at the Dillibazaar prison with another inmate former-IGP Hem Bahadur Gurung that has been in the judicial custody for not being able to pay the bail amount of Rs 50 million.
Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against 34 police officers involved in irregularities in purchasing armored vehicle and materials required for the UN Nepalese Peace Keeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan.
