By KTM Reporter in Kathmandu

On Sunday, January 03, in a press statement, Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations Kyung-wha Kang said that the continuation of breaking the law with impunity as well as the security vacuum due to the weak law enforcement and criminal justice has led to an increase in violent actions including killings and abductions by armed groups in Nepal according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of January 04, 2008. She said major obstacles to the human rights remained. “The explosions and other violent actions have had a serious adverse impact on the human rights in the Terai particularly the rights to life, freedom of assembly and association," she said, these acts of violence only serve the interests of those seeking to disrupt the peace process and will make more difficult to holding the free and fair election for a constituent assembly; the election on April 10 is essential for the consolidation of peace in Nepal.
