All-Party Meeting Of KP Oli

KTM Metro reporter

Kathmandu, May 25, 2016: Prime Minister KP Oli called an all-party meeting including the protesting Madheshi parties at his office on May 24, 2016. The meeting was an all-party except for the agitating Madheshi leaders. They did not take the meeting seriously because they knew that Prime Minister Oli had been playing with their demands not seriously thinking to meet.

In this all-party meeting minus dissident Madheshi leaders, Prime Minster Oli briefed the leaders of all political parties what actions he has taken to satisfied the dissatisfied Madheshi leaders. Leaders of all political parties agreed that they needed to resolve the political issues Madheshi leaders have taken up through the concrete dialogue.

Prime Minister Oli believed that he had withstood the pressure of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi why he should bend his head to meet the Madheshi leaders’ demands that had been protesting with the support of Modi. However, Oli also knew that Narendra Modi has been using the international forum to put pressure on him. Britain and EU took up the Modi message and declared that the Nepal’s constitution was not an inclusive. Obviously, they had not only pardoned Modi for the merciless blockade on Nepal causing 30 million Nepalese to suffer but also blessed him with taking up his message against Nepal.

Prime Minister Oli had sent an invitation letter to the Madheshi leaders with six points to discuss ignoring their so many demands. So, Madheshi leaders did not want to go to the meeting and listen to the sermon of Oli that makes many jokes than serious talks. No doubt about the chief executive of a country needs to entertain the people but with seriously delivering the services what he has promised to provide.

To counter the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in turn to the Madheshi leaders that had been the favorites of Modi, Oli has signed off so many agreements with the Chinese leaders in Beijing when he visited China. Chinese leaders promptly enforcing the agreements sent the trainload of Chinese goods to Nepal so that Nepalese will not need to suffer if Modi is to block the Indian supplies to Nepal again. China also sent a team of experts to explore the fossil fuels in Nepal. Oli has boasted that Nepal will have the petroleum products of its own, which of course is very hard to believe for any logical thinking person.

Thus, Nepal has been the chessboard for Indian Prime Minster Modi and Chinese leaders to play a serious game. Madheshi leaders have been the pawns for Modi where as Oli has been the queen for China in the chessboard to play with India. Sometimes, pawns could be the queen in the chessboard. Possibly, Madheshi leaders must be waiting for that moment.

In the recent visit to Iran, Indian Prime Minster Modi agreed to build a port near to the Pakistani border at the price of $150 million again to counter the Chinese building a port in Pakistan near to the Indian border. Thus, China and India have been smartly playing chess in the South Asia.
