Preparation For Holding Cabinet Meeting at Everest Base Camp

Issue 46, November 15, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On November 11, 2009, the Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation has told the news anchor of the Radio Nepal in the morning that he has made preparation for holding a cabinet meeting at the Everest base camp to create the awareness of melting away the snow from high mountains due to the climate change, and to stop the process of the melting and disappearing of the snow from the mountains. He has also said that he is taking about 70 people to the base camp for such a meeting.

It will be a big haul of Nepalese ministers and bureaucrats to the base camp for a meeting that could be held in Kathmandu at a little expense whereas the country will need to pay for the helicopters for taking ministers and for air tickets for the bureaucrats and then allowances for working at such a remote area.

In Nepal the ministers have been responsible for deforestation that has been one of the main reasons for the climate change. The then Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa was responsible for the drastic deforestation ordering to cut trees and make money for making the referendum on the choice between the then Panchayat system and a multi-party system held in 1980 in favor of the Panchayat.

Every Minister for Forest has been always responsible for causing deforestation in Nepal. So, the irony is that such a minister has been preparing for creating awareness of deforestation holding a cabinet meeting at the Everest base camp.
